- In 1853, the Catholic people of Uxbridge rejoiced in the establishment of a parish of their own, dedicated to
  the Mother of God, for the praise of God and service to His people. As the parish grew, so did the need for a
  newer and larger church, one made of stone and glass, that would signal the Church’s permanence in Uxbridge. In 1926, the present Saint Mary Church was consecrated and has stood proudly ever since. For nearly a century, the new Saint Mary Church has served as a spiritual home for the faithful, as well as for the struggling.
  
  With gratitude for the sacrifices made by generations of parishioners before us, and with hope for our future, we inaugurate the Second Century Capital Campaign.
  
  The Second Century Capital Campaign is a $2,000,000.00 initiative intended to address many of the structural needs of our well-loved church and school buildings in order to secure and enhance the future of Saint Mary Church and Our Lady of the Valley School for the next century.
  
  THE CHURCH EXTERIOR: $500,000
  
  We are restoring the church’s exterior by making several key improvements. This includes repointing failing mortar joints, replacing rotted fascia boards, and washing and sealing the masonry to protect it from harsh New England weather. We will also replace the copper gutter system, refurbish the downspouts, and add copper drip edges to the slate roof while replacing any broken or missing tiles. Finally, we will repair cracked concrete capstones and cover them with copper sheathing before installing new low-voltage architectural lighting to showcase our beautiful stone church.
  THE CHURCH INTERIOR: $500,000
  
  The interior of the church will also be improved upon. We will repair cracks in the plaster ceilings, walls, and trim, which will then be washed, treated for stains, and given two fresh coats of paint. The oak pews and hardwood floors will be repaired, sanded, and refinished, while the existing carpeting is replaced. Finally, we will upgrade some of the current lighting and install new architectural accent lighting.
  OUR LADY OF THE VALLEY SCHOOL: $500,000
  At Our Lady of the Valley School, we will be removing the original 60-year-old windows and safely abating the asbestos caulking. Following this, new energy-efficient windows and shades will be installed to improve comfort and reduce energy costs.
  THE HAIL MARY GOAL: $500,000
  
  For our final major project, we will increase the church’s electrical capacity and install air conditioning. We believe this addition will greatly improve comfort for the congregation while still honoring our tradition of short and impactful summertime homilies.
